This shrine is located in Hachinohe, Aomori. Its history goes back to Kamakura Period (1185-1333) when it was the shrine of Nanbu Domain, controlling East of Aomori and North of Iwate. As a Nanbu Ichinomiya shrine (Japanese Shinto shrines with the highest shrine rank), it still gets a lot of pilgrims. There are also several National Treasures you can see at the National Treasure Museum on the shrine grounds, beginning with the Akaito-Odoshi Yoroi (armor laced with red threads).Today, this armor and the armor enshrined at Kasuga-Taisha Shrine in Nara are considered the best examples of Japanese samurai armor in existence.
