JR Gonō Line

Enjoy Spectacular Sea of Japan Views and Local Cuisine aboard the Resort Shirakami

JR五能线.jpg

The JR Gonō Line’s Resort Shirakami sightseeing train runs through the Shirakami-Sanchi Mountains, a World Natural Heritage site, and along the scenic coastline of the Sea of Japan. From the spacious, open-feel cars, passengers can take in sweeping views of the majestic mountains and the Sea of Japan, especially stunning at sunset.

The interior of the Buna train set features generous use of locally sourced wood from along the route, including beech—the symbolic tree of Shirakami—Akita cedar, and Aomori hiba. The result is a warm, natural atmosphere that lets you enjoy the journey while feeling closely connected to the surrounding wilderness.
