The Sightseeing Train “Joyful Train Mutsu” Travels Through the Remote Shimokita Peninsula

JR大凑线.jpg

Set out from Aomori Station on a winter journey to fully experience Aomori Prefecture. The Ōminato Line runs along the scenic coastline of Mutsu Bay on the Shimokita Peninsula, connecting Noheji Station with Ōminato Station in Mutsu City.

The Shimokita Peninsula is home to a wide variety of attractions, including Yokohama Town’s vast canola flower fields—among the largest in Japan by cultivated area—Hotokegaura, renowned as a natural work of art, Mount Osore (Osorezan), one of Japan’s three major sacred sites, and Cape Shiriya, where a striking white lighthouse and hardy kandachime horses can be seen.
