Tamamatsudai is a 1.88-hectare green park located on a small plateau west of Tamamatsu Beach, surrounded by pine trees. The area takes its name from Tamamatsu, a venerable pine said to be over 300 years old, with thick branches that spread in a circular shape.
During the Edo period, boats heading for Aomori Port or Aburakawa Port are said to have used this pine as a landmark, estimating how many hours remained until arrival. Local vessels also relied on it as a beacon in place of a lighthouse. The view of Mutsu Bay from this elevated spot is especially beautiful and poetic.
Today, improvements to nearby Kojō-no-Numa Pond have turned the area into a quiet, relaxing retreat, where visitors can enjoy the gentle sound of the wind moving through the pine trees.
