The prefectural Hase Peony Garden is located in the halfway up the Mt. Nakui and is considered as the largest peony garden across the Tohoku region. Starting from 1979, with the slogan of "One Peony Flower for One Person", the locals start to plant peony flowers here which is part of the effort of the hometown development. Currently, the Hase Peony Garden covers an area of 3.3 hectares, and there are 80,000 peony flowers of 130 different kinds. Each year, the best time to enjoy the peony blossoms is from 21 May to 10 June. During the time, tourists from all over the world would come to visit and take part in various activities while being surrounded by big peony flowers.
