Atago Park was built under the guidance of Takahashi Teizan ( the foremost gardener of Bugaku School Style gardens in Meiji Period) in 1873 and is renowned for its cherry blossoms. From the park, visitors can overlook the whole city. While wandering along the walking path, you can feel the change of seasons and appreciate beautiful poems engraved on steles, such as "flowers are in full bloom, mountains are at every day's dawn" by Matsuo Basho (1644-1694, one of the most celebrated poets in Japanese history), "fragrant flowers and fragrant tides, another year from the same sand beach on the north side" by Takuboku Ishikawa (1886-1912), etc.
