Chijirihama Beach is located near the border between Mutsu City and Kazamaura Village, facing the Tsugaru Strait. Here, you can observe the various terrains--complex rock shapes, pits in the walls, and holes at the ground--formed by the power of the waves, and many creatures inhabit the holes where the seawater has accumulated The Tsugaru Strait is a sea where warm currents and cold currents intersect, so here is a mixture of organisms that prefer warm water and those that prefer cold water.  Hence, the beach is also used for environmental education.It is said that the origin of the name Chijirihama is not related to "rock that shrinks," but rather to a certain legend brought about by the terrain remain.Please go to the homepage of the Shimokita Geopark for the details of the legend.
