Historic Site: Korekawa Stone Age Site / Hachinohe City

Located in the southeast of Hachinohe City, built on a terrace at an elevation along the Niida River, the Korekawa Site is a historic site of village in Jomon Period.

The Korekawa Site is a general term of the Nakai Site, which dates from the Final Jomon period, the Ichioji and Hotta sites, and is generally called "Korekawa Site". Among them, in addition to pottery, stone tools and clay figurines, a number of exquisite lacquerware, lacquerware bows, lacquer brushes and other lacquerware were unearthed from the Nakai Site, 963 of which were listed as important cultural relics. These relics are on display at Korekawa Archaeological Institution (Korekawa Jomon Kan), along with the Gassho clay figurines (Kazahari 1 site), which was designated as a national treasure in 2009.
