To the northeast side of the Tsugaru Peninsula, is Odai Yamamoto Site which is located on a fluvial terrace (500 meters north-south, 300 meters east-west) on the left side of the Kanita River and 8km upstream from the river mouth of Mutsu Bay. It is a very rare historic site as it was a place of stone manufacturing in northern Japan. Just 3.5km to the west, there was a quarry of siliceous shale (Keishitsuketsugan), a stone tool material. Therefore, this site had been operated for stone manufacturing since the latter half of the late Paleolithic to the early Jomon period.
