Ashino Park is known as a place where the writer Osamu Dazai used to play when he was a small boy. The park has been selected as one of the 100 Best Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in Japan, where 1500 cherry trees and old pine trees spreading on the lakeshore. The park is 80 hectares large, and visitors can enjoy a lake, the Osamu Dazai Literary Monument, and a statue of Osamu Dazai. There is also a children’s zoo and an auto-camping site which are popular among local people. The Tsugaru Railway running through the park, a small old-fashioned train station, and the tranquil rural landscape that can be seen from the train attracts many visitors.
