This site is located about 10 km northwest of the Kizukuri Station along the JR Gono Line. Generally, it is named as the "Kamegaoka Iseki", meaning Kamegaoka historic site. The excavated items are mainly from the late Jomon period (about 4,000-2300 years ago) and reveal exquisite artistic excellence, consisting of finished and unfinished Jōmon pottery pieces, clay figurines, and lacquerware. Recent excavations have revealed the structure of the villages that people influenced by "Kamegaoka Culture" once lived.Next to the Kamegaoka site on the north, there is Tagoyano Shell Midden which has a shell mound in the latter half of the early Jomon period (about 6,000 to 5,000 years ago) and ruins of villages (6000~ 4000 years ago) known for cylindrical pottery. Both the two Site are designated as National Historic Site.
