KARCO showcases artifacts excavated mainly from the Kamegaoka Site as well as from various historic sites in the city. In addition, the restored pit dwellings reveal people’s life in the Jomon period, and dolls that look exactly like Jomon people speak to visitors in an ancient language. One of the most famous objects found in the Kamegaoka Site was a large clay figure, or Dogū in Japanese, discovered in 1887. Known as a Shakōki-dogū, or "goggle-eyed type" figurine, it appears to be wearing some form of snow goggles that northern tribes use. It was designated as a National Importance Cultural Property and is now kept at Tokyo National Museum. An exquisite replica from the real Dogu is on display in the hall.
