Omori-Katsuyama site is located at the tip of a 145-m-high tongue-shaped hill on the northeastern side of the foot of Mt. Iwaki in western Aomori Prefecture. It is mainly composed of a stone circle from the first half of the Final Jomon period (approx. 1,000 BC).There are only a small number of stone circle cites of the late Jomon period in Japan, and among which, this site is the only case where the entire has revealed by excavation. Besides, the site is surrounded by windbreak woods and natural forests, so that standing inside it, you’ll feel like you had time slipped into the Jomon Period.
