The Kōnan Line runs from Hirosaki Station through Hirakawa City and Inakadate Village to Kuroishi Station. Known affectionately as the “Rice Paddy Railway” due to its path running through rice fields, the line celebrated its 98th anniversary on September 7, 2025, since its opening.
The event train Tsugaru “Tokimawari”, renovated in 2023 with a "Wabi-Sabi" theme, offers a unique journey where passengers can enjoy local seasonal foods. The train operates as a seasonal dining experience that highlights regional cuisine.
Along the route, visitors can admire the intricate tanbo art (rice paddy art) in Inakadate Village from summer to fall, displayed at two local sites. In Kuroishi City, the Komise (covered shopping arcades) along Nakamichi Street, a traditional architectural feature, has been preserved as part of the town’s cultural heritage, and the street was even selected as one of Japan’s “Top 100 Roads.”
